The best people are always the
most interesting, with laugh-lines, stories and
pasts that open easily upon knocking.
The best books are heaviest with
truth, telling us what we already
know, lest we should ever forget.
The best berries are the highest
on the branches furthest from reach,
lending a scrape that draws blood.
The best moments are the brightest:
sun on skin, lights on tree.
Smiles on the faces we love.
The best memories are the murkiest:
steeped in shadow, overgrown with weeds
knee-high we cannot push through.
